Fellowship
Through online and in-person events and gatherings, NEBAC artist members have the opportunity to meet and engage with other artists with roots in Africa or the African diaspora. As one artist noted, “the vibe is different here—this is community, no, this family.” Members support each other, share information and opportunities, and when together, create a vibrant energy that is palpable. Bi-monthly gatherings are an opportunity to share ideas and celebrate accomplishments
Opportunities for supportive critique
At regular, bi-monthly, in-person gatherings, artist members have the opportunity to have works in progress critiqued by other practicing artists from a range of media. “I find it enormously beneficial to have my work considered by practitioners from other media. Thoughts from their perspective and with their ‘eye’, often give me ideas to bring clarity to my work or to consider approaches to a topic I might not have thought of. I find it invaluable.”
Professional Development
Each quarter, NEBAC hosts a speaker to offer insight into an aspect of the professional landscape relevant to practicing artists. Topics include writing an artist statement, creating an artist’s resume, applying for residencies, working with galleries, and other topics of interest to creatives, regardless of what point they are in their career.
